Every town has its legends, and in the sleepy village of Thornridge, it was The Hollow House an old Victorian mansion that hadn’t seen a resident (living or otherwise) in over 50 years.
Except this Halloween… someone (or something) sent an invitation.
The Invitation
It all started with a pumpkin-shaped envelope that arrived at the door of Madame Celestina, Thornridge’s most dramatic psychic. Inside was a note written in perfect cursive:
“To the most gifted minds in the unseen arts.
You are cordially invited to a Halloween Séance at the Hollow House. Midnight sharp. Don’t be late. A Friend from the Other Side ”
Most people would’ve burned it immediately. Not Madame Celestina. She framed it.
Meet the Psychic Squad
Celestina gathered her usual crew of supernatural misfits:
–Ricky the Clairvoyant – Sees the future, but only 90 seconds ahead (which is mostly useless for anything but traffic).
–Nina the Empath – Feels everyone’s emotions and snacks accordingly.
–Eli the Skeptical Medium – Talks to ghosts, doesn’t believe in them.
-And Tilly – The intern who can tell when someone’s lying, but only if they’re holding a rubber duck.
“Finally,” Celestina said, throwing on her seventh scarf. “A party worthy of our psychic talents!”
“I don’t think ghosts throw parties,” Eli muttered.
“They do if they’re bored,” said Nina, biting into a chocolate eyeball. “Dead people have no streaming services.”
Midnight at the Hollow House
When the clock struck twelve, the front door creaked open on its own.
“Oh, classic haunted house move,” Ricky whispered. “Love that for us.”
Inside, cobwebs shimmered like lace, candles lit themselves, and a dusty piano played an off-key version of Monster Mash. A long table was set in the dining room with crystal balls, tarot decks, and name cards. Each place setting had a name… and one said:
“YOU”
“Weird,” said Tilly. “Who’s ‘You’?”
“I don’t like this,” said Eli. “Which means something very paranormal is about to happen.”
The Séance Begins
Madame Celestina led the group in a circle, holding hands. “Spirits of Thornridge, we call to thee!”
Suddenly, the chandelier flickered. The walls groaned. The rubber duck squeaked (Tilly was nervous).
And then… a ghostly figure floated down the stairs in a Victorian nightgown, sipping ghost tea.
“Finally!” she huffed. “Took you long enough.”
The group gasped. Except Eli, who blinked and said, “I’m still not convinced.”
The Ghost with a Complaint
The ghost introduced herself as Evelyn Fairweather, former owner of the Hollow House. She had one request:
-“Please tell the town to stop making up ghost stories about me. I’m not cursed, I’m just introverted. I died during a solo tea party, not under mysterious circumstances.”
“Oh my god,” Nina whispered. “She’s a ghost… with boundaries.”
“Also,” Evelyn added, “you’re sitting in my favorite chair.”
Celestina moved immediately.
Tricks, Treats, and Tea
Evelyn ended up hosting the ghostliest tea party Thornridge had ever seen. Ghosts from decades past floated in, sipping spectral cider and telling awkward afterlife stories.
-Ricky saw a vision of someone falling down the stairs then tripped 90 seconds later.
-Nina cried when a 1920s ghost said he missed jazz.
Eli finally admitted ghosts were real.
And Tilly? She discovered the duck could also detect ghost lies.
“I think I just leveled up,” she whispered.
The Psychic Squad Saves Halloween
The next morning, the Psychic Squad returned to town with the news: the Hollow House wasn’t cursed, just cranky. Evelyn was fine. The ghost stories could chill out.
The townspeople were so grateful, they made Celestina the Grand Pumpkin Marshal in the Halloween parade. Evelyn got her own float just a teacup with fog
And as for the Psychic Squad?
They started a podcast: “Dead Serious: Paranormal with Personality.”
